Trade is Coming Out!

Friday, 18th July 2014

In the next few months, Trade Sexual Health will be moving from our long-established home at 15 Wellington Street.

For nearly 15 years, we have supported the health needs of the LGB&T communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. From our starting points as a small gay men’s charity, Trade has won an NHS Gem award for our work with sauna based clinics, secured national innovation funding for HIV testing at Pride and HIV prevention work in prisons, launched new health services for lesbian, bisexual and trans communities and been chosen as the lead agency for the East and West Midlands to deliver the national HIV prevention programme.

We think it’s time for a change. Due to the end of our current lease at 15 Wellington Street, we are taking the opportunity to find a new home: one that that will help us continue to deliver our award-winning programmes, increase our engagement with the communities we serve, and launch new projects and partnerships. Along the way, we will be creating a new vision for Trade, looking at how we support the health and wellbeing of the LGB&T communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (and maybe further afield!).

Over the next few months, we will be out and about in various locations across the city and county, talking to our communities and partners about the things you love about Trade, the new services you would like to see and the ways you would like to get involved.

As we plan for the future, its business as usual at 15 Wellington Street where our team will continue to deliver the wide range of services from drop-in advice to HIV testing and one-to-one counselling. Please check our website and social media and get in touch with the Trade team for updates. We will keep you updated of news as our plans unfold.

Sal Khalifa and Veronica Nall - Trade’s Co-Directors - said:

“We are very excited about our vision and this change and will see significant development for Trade. A new location will help Trade to continue to improve our service delivery and to reach even more LGB&T people.”

FAQs:

Why the change?

Our current lease has ended, giving us the opportunity to look at other ways we can deliver services best suited to the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland LGB&T communities.

Will Trade be based in the city centre?

We are looking into new premises in the city centre as well as opportunities to deliver services from bases in the county and other parts of Leicester

Will Trade’s services change?

Trade will be running all of our usual services from 15 Wellington Street until we move.  We will keep you posted on our website and social media of any change in location and when we do move, all of our services will move with us, so you’ll still be able to get the same access to HIV testing, one-to-one support, counselling, information and advice and all of our other services.

We hope to offer a wider range of health and wellbeing services from our new premises. As all of our service users know, sexual health has and will continue to be a big part of our work, but we have always had a broader view: we are not only interested in the sexual bits, but the whole person.

When will you move?

We will be moving from 15 Wellington Street in the next few months. We will keep you updated through our website and social networks with the new address.

Where will Trade be moving to?

We are still in the process of exploring potential offices which have some exciting options for Trade and its services. Once we have signed on the dotted line we will be able to let you know.

How will I know?

We will keep you updated via face book, twitter, our website and mailing list (see below).
