Following the findings from Trade’s RAP (Rainbow Asian Project), we now have a new member of staff as part of the team as our very own dedicated South Asian Support Worker, Makinder Chahal.
As well as providing one-to-one support for the South Asian LGBT communities across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, Makinder will also be working with people and organisations within these communities to further enhance their knowledge of the challenges that some people within their own community may face in regards to sexuality, faith and culture, and the effects it could have on people’s health and wellbeing.
With that in mind, Trade has also created the first South Asian social and support men’s group for guys who like guys called Dosti, which means “friendship” in Hindi and Urdu. The primary aim of the group is to enable peer-led support through a variety of workshops, social gatherings and discussions in order for some of the issues above to be addressed.
If you would like to know more, or if you know anybody who would benefit from this new service, then contact Makinder on 0116 254 1747 or email makinder@tradesexualhealth.com
