5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
This Wednesday saw the launch of Leicester's very own LGB&T Open Mind service - a unique project created by Trade, Leicester Partnership Trust, and the LGB&T Centre. The project aims to increase access to psychological therapies, such as counselling, for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans residents within Leicester City!
After months (and months!) of planning, the event brought together a host of bigwigs and organisations to showcase, yet again, all the wonderful work happening within the Leicester LGB&T community. Aren't we amazing?!
The food and drink flowed, speakers spoke, interviews occurred, and promotional DVDs were shown - all in all a fantastic event, for a fantastic service!
You can listen to an interview with the national project leader Kevin Mullins, and Open Mind counsellor Theresa Naish with BBC radio Leicester's Ben Jackson here - starts roughly 1hr 13mins in...
So, what is the LGB&T Open Mind Service?
The Open Mind service is a talking therapy service specifically for LGB&T people living in Leicester City who are feeling stressed, troubled, anxious or depressed, delivered in a safe and confidential LGB&T friendly space.
If you'd like some more information on whether the service might be for you, check out this short film.
The service can be accessed though self referral, meaning that you do not have to go through your GP. You can get a self-referral form by contacting Trade on info@tradesexualhealth.com, 0116 254 1747, or by dropping into the office. Otherwise, you can contact the Open Mind service direct by ringing 0116 295 2151.
As the service is only for individuals living within Leicester city, county resisdents can access Trade's in-house counselling service, details of which can be found here.
