A review of Kill Your Darlings

Ever since hearing about Daniel Radcliffe performing naked on stage in Equus, I've had a burning curiosity to see him naked. Not a hot, fierce fiendfyre like burning, just a smouldering fascination to see Harry Potter's winky. He now clearly wants to cast away any ties to his childhood fame and star in as many gritty, adult films as possible - which offers plenty of potential to catch him naked!

Kill Your Darlings (2013) certainly ticks all the boxes for Radcliffe, it battles with drug use and violence and there are scenes of a sexual nature, all sounding good so far right?

Sure, the real events the film is based on are certainly fascinating, and the people who lived them are vibrant. Google "Beat Generation" if you want an idea of the setting of the film.

However, with such a wealth of material to work with, you'd hope for more than this film offers. The characters were one dimensional and the script felt contrived, as if it were written by someone just pretending to be a poet. The plot itself is questionable and after some research, I really don't know how closely it actually meets with the truth; perhaps that's why it all felt a little off kilter.

So, if you're watching for a glimpse of Daniel Radcliffe's arse, then go for it, but it's not a film I'll be rushing to see again.
