Sexuality, Gender Identity and Belief: The Leicester Approach

Friday, 28th October 2016

In partnership with St Philip’s Centre, and funded by Leicester City Council’s Community Engagement Fund, Trade Sexual Health will be running a series of engagement activities to provide open discussions between faith communities and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGB&T) communities of Leicester.

This initial awareness raising seminar will introduce the project, giving a background on what we are proposing to do and research which has sparked our inspiration for this project. There will also be an opportunity to hear stories from LGB&T people of faith, and their journeys and struggles of reconciling their sexuality, gender identity and faith, as well as participate in the next stages of the project.

Following this event, there will be a series of closed shared conversations between community faith leaders, faith community change-makers and LGB&T individuals in order to gather information and action the best methods to understand and support LGB&T people of faith and to increase resilience between faith communities and LGB&T communities.

Places for this event are limited, so if you are passionate about making positive steps towards change, then please sign up. Don't worry if you cannot make this event but still want to be a part of the project. There will be further opportunities to get involved.

The kind of people we are looking for to attend this event are:

  • faith community leaders
  • members of faith communities or congregations
  • lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people of faith
  • faith and chaplaincy services and organisations, including committee members, other members and volunteers
