At Manchester pride 2014, the LGBT Cancer Support Alliance asked 217 people “what does the prostate gland do?”
- Add fluid to semen?
- Produce an enzyme enabling sperm to swim?
- Is it the male G-spot?
- Does urine run through it when leaving the bladder?
- All of the above?
All of the above answers are correct!
213 people knew that the prostate gland is positioned just under the bladder. 200 knew men had a prostate gland (17 though women and trans men had one too)* 50% of respondents knew about the prostate being the male G-spot. 13% of respondents thought receiving anal sex increased the risk of prostate cancer (this isn’t true but advice is to be gentle with your G-spot).
Enjoy yourself and remember to wrap up with a condom during anal sex.
Take care of your prostate: be proud to go smoke-free and drink in moderation as this can help cut down your risk around many difference types of cancer, not just prostate.
*although people who are born female will not have a prostate, trans women will still have a prostate post-gender reassignment surgery and can still develop prostate cancer.
