Yoga

Health professionals list work, unemployment, money and endings as most common causes for stress.Stress is normal. It is what we feel when a situation is hard to handle. Don't worry be happy is easier said and done, but if we find ways to cope, even a little it may be that we get more out of our lifes. Good exercise could help instantly by release of happiness chemicals into your system as well as helping to build upon resiliance overtime.

Check out our volunteer's take on physical but also mental and spiritual practice that is Yoga...

"My yoga journey began about 15 years when I moved house and I saw a twice a week class advertised at the village hall across the road.Armed with a newly purchased mat and accompanied by a neighbour i parked myself at the back of the class so no one would see me. Big mistake - half way through the class we all faced the back wall and I couldn't watch anyone to see what they were doing. So begun, what was then, a regular exercise class.

Driven to the class by aching joints and ongoing back, neck and hip problems ( some of it due to stress) I found my body slowly loosening off. And so it continued for a number of years.

One of the things that struck me early on about was its capacity to meet me, as I was, on the day - and still do me good, leaving me feeling better than when i entered the class. Some days I could touch my toes, some days I couldn't - yoga didn't demand it was any other way.

For the last three years things have got a bit morte serious - I practice four times a week for about five hours. Mostly at classes but I am starting to consider developing a home practice. The physical benefits remain - I'm fitter now than I was when I was in my twenties and a lot more flexible. My breathe control is incredible and I'm developing core strength and awareness I never thought possible. Yes its exercise but i feel so much more grounded and connected when I practice and feel deprived and less connected when i don't.

My only regret - not starting it in my twenties. So whatever age or level of fitness let yoga meet you where you are today. All you have to do is show up on a mat."
