Trade Sexual Health shortlisted for UK final of Lloyds Bank Foundation Charity Achievement Awards

Monday, 27th July 2015

Trade has been selected from charities across East Midlands as the regional winner of the Championing Change Award.  Trade received a prize of £1000 and will now compete against charities from across England and Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands for six overall prizes which will be announced at the UK Final awards ceremony on 8th October 2015.

The Charity Achievement Awards have been created to recognise the amazing, life changing work of small and medium sized charities. Trade won the Championing Change Award in East Midlands

Trade Sexual Health sees championing change a core part of their service and is a shining example of how charities can lead changes to policy and practice for the people they support. In their efforts to help the LGB&T communities around accessing health services, reducing isolation and preventing discrimination, they have taken part in numerous advisory groups to help shape the work that is being done and to ensure the voices of those using their services are heard.

One of the charity’s most significant triumphs was partnering with the statutory sexual health services to deliver full sexual screening clinics in gay men’s saunas. Without any local funding when starting the project, they pioneered an approach that made a significant impact in reducing HIV infection and reducing risky sexual behaviour. Trade now presents at national conferences to share their methods of practice with others.

Sal Khalifa of Trade Sexual Health said of the award, “It is a fantastic reflection on how a small LGB&T Health charity like Trade can work collaboratively to champion change and make a difference to LGB&T people’s lives. Trade will continue to ensure LGB&T communities have quality, accessible and inclusive services. We are delighted to be awarded the East Midlands winner.  We are thankful to Lloyds Bank Foundation who have been instrumental in helping small charities such as Trade to support change in their local communities”

Chief Executive of the Foundation, Paul Streets OBE, said of the awards: ‘We are delighted to celebrate the winners of our Charity Achievement Awards. Trade Sexual Health has demonstrated excellent and inspiring practice, and has set the standard high; not just surviving in these tough times, but thriving, delivering vital services and literally transforming lives. For over 30 years the Foundation has supported thousands of such small and medium sized charities to tackle disadvantage in communities right across East Midlands and we look forward to doing much more in the years to come.’
