World AIDS Day Red Ribbon Remembrance

Thursday December 1st 2022

World AIDS Day Red Ribbon Remembrance

5:45pm - 07:30 New Walk Museum and Art Gallery (53 New Walk, Leicester LE1 7EA)

We invite you to attend Leicester’s 2022 World AIDS Day Red Ribbon Remembrance event on Thursday 1 December at 5.45pm prompt (until 6.15pm, followed by refreshments).  In addition to attending the event, we would be honoured if you could say a few words during the event (for your information, we have asked Sir Peter Soulsby to light the first candle during the ceremony)

Trade Sexual Health have organised the Red Ribbon Remembrance event in Leicester for many years. The event is an opportunity for Leicester’s diverse communities to come together, remember and celebrate all those we have lost to AIDS-related illnesses over the last 40 years.

World AIDS Day is also a day for us to celebrate the significant advances that have been made in HIV treatment and prevention over the last decade. It is also an opportunity to look to the future and to make a shared commitment to challenging HIV stigma and to take action to eradicate HIV.

This year, we are holding the World AIDS Day Red Ribbon Remembrance at the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery (53 New Walk, Leicester LE1 7EA) to coincide with the Positive Leicester exhibition. We will also be joined by the Leicester LGBT Centre Choir who will perform as part of the Red Ribbon Remembrance event.

The Positive Leicester exhibition tells the story of Leicester’s LGBTQ+ community’s response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic and how that community created a lifesaving resource for all. New Walk Museum are hosting a series of events and activities related to World AIDS Day and the exhibition throughout the day from 2.00pm and the exhibition will stay open until 7.30pm after the Red Ribbon Remembrance.
